Album - In Between - Layla Foord
Layla Foord
A collection of songs written in moments of transition — between past and future, self and identity. Not polished, not performative, just real.
In Between
Some things don't resolve cleanly. They sit in the space where one version of you has already ended and the next hasn't quite arrived.
I wrote this album inside that space.
Not for an audience. Not as a release plan. As a set of conversations with my younger self, with my daughter, with people I care about, with states I've moved through but never quite named.
Each song holds a transition. Not resolved. Not rushed. Just witnessed.
What this album is
These songs weren't written to be performed. They were written to be understood.
A way of putting words around what's usually felt privately:
- the version of you that adapted too early
- the part of you that is overwhelmed but still functioning
- a child learning who they are
- the space between exhaustion and rest
This is not a collection. It's a set of thresholds.
Track Notes
Little Me
A return, without rewriting.
Not to fix the past, but to recognise it properly. You weren't too much. You weren't wrong. You were early, and you were alone with it.
You weren't broken. Just unseen.
Let Me Sleep
The moment before shutdown.
Not laziness. Not avoidance. Just capacity at its limit. When the system is full, the only intelligent move left is to stop. There's no failure in that. There's honesty.
You Already Are Enough
For my daughter. Before comparison hardens. Before performance takes over.
A quiet interruption to the idea of becoming.
You're not becoming. You already are.
How it came to be
This album wasn't planned. The songs arrived separately, and I didn't see the connection at first.
But they shared something: they were all written to someone. Not abstractly. Directly. And they all sit in a moment where something is shifting but hasn't settled yet. That's what holds them together.
Closing
Most systems reward clarity. Clear answers, clear identity, clear direction.
But real life doesn't always move like that. It pauses. It stretches. It sits in places that don't have language yet.
This album stays there.
Not as a statement. Just as a record of what it feels like to be in between.
